Agri SETA DG Grant 2014/2015

BY Clarice Oelofse

Discretionary Grants are made available to employees in support of workplace skills development as well as to unemployed learners to assist them to gain access to skills development and improve their employment opportunities and to support entrepreneurship. In lieu of this, Agri SETA had made their discretionary grant (DG Grant) available for 2014/2015.

Preference will be given to applications that support the Agricultural Sector Scarce and Critical Skills reflected in the AgriSETA Sector Skills Plan (SSP). Applications should be properly completed and all required supporting documents must be attached. Applications close on 31 January 2014, and works on a "First Come First Serve" basis. All discretionary grants are VAT zero rated.  The value of the Grant for both employed and unemployed learners is R182.00 per credit per learner. For example: a GMP course is 17 credits - 17 x R182 = R3 094 per learner. The cap per company is R109 200 (that is some decent training!).

The allocation of funds will be aligned to the AgriSETA strategic objectives with emphasis on the Sector Scarce and Critical Skills. Some of the training interventions that preference will be given to are amongst others, but not limited to, the following occupations/interventions:

  • Food Technician
  • Food, Health, Safety and Quality occupations (Livestock Inspector, HACCP/Export Readiness)
  • Occupational Based Foundational Learning Programs (Farm Maintenance & Repair Worker)
  • Farm Manager
  • Veterinary and related occupations

In other words: Food Safety training is covered in this grant, and the following skills programmes can be applied for:
